Pizza
My favorite places to go for a slice in Nashville.
Mafiaoza’s
12 South
Enjoy a 1920’s New York Style pizza and an Aperol Spritz in one of the coolest, laid-back neighborhoods in town.
Five Points Pizza
West & East Nashville
Grab a New York-style pizza and a craft beer from the locals’ favorite joint.
Emmy Squared
Green Hills & The Gulch
Enjoy a Detroit-style deep dish pizza with a thick, chewy yet crunchy crust in a chic setting. Photo from instagram.com
Bella Napoli
Edgehill
Enjoy pizza made with ingredients imported straight from Italy. Pair it with a glass of red wine or an Aperol Spritzer. Get cocktails at Old Glory, a secret bar (look for the door with the big yellow triangle on it) next door, before or after dinner.
Joey’s House of Pizza
Elm Hill Pike
Authentic New York pizza made by a family with Brooklyn and Italian roots. Joey’s is only open during the week for lunch (11am-3pm). Get there as early as you can, and expect a line; this place is popular! Picture by @wickedtasty
Jack Brown’s Beer and Burger Joint
Jack Brown’s Beer and Burger Joint in Edgehill… the best damn burger I’ve ever tasted.
Jack Brown’s Beer and Burger Joint in Edgehill… the best damn burger I’ve ever tasted. The fries and fried Oreos are equally amazing. The prices are cheap, the beer is great, and the laid-back, dimly-lit ambiance is on point. I got the classic cheeseburger and fries, and my husband went with The Frankie Brady: A flip-flop potato roll, 2 slices of Cheese, house-made Mac n’Cheese & BBQ potato chips. Mac n Cheese and chips on a burger. GENIUS.
Love the cozy Christmas lights and dim lighting.
Cheeseburger (served plain) comes with fries, dipping sauce, and a pickle.

The Fox Bar & Cocktail Club in East Nashville is an intimate, cozy, 21+ speakeasy and makes a fantastic date night. The food and cocktails are divine and the service is awesome. The romantic dim lighting really sets the mood. They have specialty shots, appetizers like Miso Deviled Eggs and Charcuterie Boards, fresh baked cookies, and non-alcoholic and vegan options. They do offer reservations but only for their open time of 5pm, all other times are first come, first served. Even though “Club” is in the name, no membership is needed; they are open to the public.
I’m drinking the “September 2020” (refreshing and fabulous). The husband got a “19th century Manhattan”.

Bourbon Steak on the 34th floor of the JW Marriott Hotel makes the best date night ever. Sweeping views of the city, delectable food, and hand-crafted cocktails. Reservations are a must, and if you request a window table in your reservations notes, they might make that happen! I highly recommend the filet mignon and the potato purée. It is unimaginably good. Not to mention the bathroom (or the women’s bathroom at least) which also has floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the city. This is a place where you won’t feel overdressed… put on those heels and that dress you never get to wear!

Von Elrod's Beer Hall & Kitchen
Grab a pint of beer or mimosa as big as your head, chow down on a huge homemade pretzel, or go full German and get a bratwurst. I personally love coming here for brunch.
The most German place you can go in Germantown… Von Elrod’s! Grab a pint of beer or mimosa as big as your head, chow down on a huge homemade pretzel, or go full German and get a bratwurst. I personally love coming here for brunch. Choose from malted blueberry pancakes, a breakfast burrito, or sausage balls just to name a few. You can’t go wrong with anything on the brunch menu! They have ample seating inside and outside, so this place is perfect for a large group. They don’t accept reservations for parties less than 15, but you can call ahead (615-866-1620) to put your name on the list 30 minutes prior to your arrival, so that’s cool!

St. Añejo
Fun, busy, atmosphere with amazing margaritas and queso dip!
St. Añejo is always poppin’. It seems like there is always a super long wait, but since they grab your number and text you when your table is ready, you can simply hop to another bar to grab a drink while you wait. (Keep in mind they only give you 5 minutes to claim your table so don’t wander too far). Last time I went they were serving margaritas while you waited, and that was amazing! Keep in mind they only take reservations for groups of 6-8. Another option while waiting for your table is walking around and taking pictures by the murals while you wait. I’ll be honest… everyone LOVES the food so maybe I’m weird, but honestly… the food is just OK to me (well, their queso dip is really good!). I LOVE their margaritas (I always get the “Golden Coast” which is the skinny margarita i.e, they don’t put as much crap in it). And their atmosphere is really fun. On weekends it can get loud and rowdy, just to warn ya! If you’re not a grandma like me, you may even like that. They also serve brunch on Saturday and Sunday!

Biscuit Love is just what it sounds like… southern biscuits and one of the best breakfasts you can get in Nashville. They’re open for breakfast and lunch and both locations are always packed, but it’s worth the wait. Right now due to Covid, they have curbside pick-up available, so that’s awesome! Although their biscuits are wonderful, they also have a lot of other amazing food options: pictured below are the “Bonuts”: fried biscuit dough tossed in sugar, topped with lemon mascarpone, served over blueberry compote. OMG… so good. They also have coffee, cocktails, and beer!
The “Princess”: Buttermilk Biscuit topped with Nashville-style Spicy Boneless “Hot Chicken” Thigh, pickles, and mustard

Merchants (First Floor Bistro) in downtown Nashville is right on the Honky Tonk Strip on Broadway. I like this place because while the honky tonks are fun and all, sometimes I need a break for some quality food and a nice cocktail. Merchants is the place for that. Make a reservation and go for dinner one night, you won’t regret it! If you’re visiting Nashville in the summertime, this is also a great place to cool off (they have air conditioning while most of the Honky Tonks do not). Their food is amazing: think tater tots, burgers, salmon, steak, deviled eggs, fried green tomatoes, soup, salad, sandwiches… they have everything! Make sure to try one of their signature cocktails while you’re there! Depending on what day you’re there, you may need to make reservations. Merchants also has a separate upstairs dining area that’s open for dinner and has offerings like steak, salmon, and burgers.

The Mockingbird in the Gulch is a great place for brunch with the girls or date night! I recommend making reservations because they get really busy during peak days and hours. Their famous “Punchin’ Bag” is a hibiscus lemon punch with your choice of booze served in a bag! While not very environmentally friendly… it does make you feel like you’re a kid drinking out of a capri-sun and is delicious. During brunch they serve “Bubbles in a Bag” which is the daily punch spiked with champagne.
From the casual totchos (which you know that’s what I ordered) to a fancy NY Strip, their menu has a huge range and lots of unique options. Get the double cheeseburger or go for the seared mahi mahi. Brunch options are extensive and include pastries, classic breakfast options, breakfast tacos, and fried chicken and biscuits. I can’t decide which is cuter… the patio or the indoor decor. You won’t be disappointed with either!
We chose to sit on the patio this time!

Acme Feed & Seed
If you want some good food, need some air conditioning, want one of the best rooftop view of downtown, while still having that “Honky Tonk” feel, head to Acme at the end of the strip.
Locals hardly ever go to Broadway, but if we do, we go to Acme. Acme is at the end of the strip and feels a little more classy than the rest of the Honky Tonks (not hating, but I’ve been there done that). If you want some good food, need some air conditioning, want one of the best rooftop views of the strip, while still having that “Honky Tonk” feel, head to Acme. Acme has three levels of fun:
1st Floor
Live music, beer, cocktails, casual cuisine, and a small boutique where you can buy local goods.
2nd Floor
Lounge seating, group spaces, games, photo booth, sushi bar, and cocktails. With a ton of TVs , this place is awesome to watch a game!
3rd Floor
Climb all the way to the 3rd floor (or take the elevator) to get to the rooftop. Here you’ll find incredible views of Nissan Stadium, the river, and downtown. They serve drinks but no food, but you can bring your food up from the first or second floor and eat it up there. They usually have live music.

One of my favorite bars, this place is decorated like a ski lodge and makes you feel cozy and warm. But when the weather’s nice, there’s also a big outdoor seating area where you can watch the people walk by. It’s a lively joint, where young locals like to hang out. We love their drink specials (just ask and they’ll let you know what they are), especially their list of “a beer and a shot” combos. They also have food in case you’re hungry. It’s right in the middle the 12 South action and walkable to a ton of other bars and restaurants. My husband and I go here so much that the bartenders may know our names… oops.

Big Bar - Bastion
The BIg Bar at Bastion is the perfect place to grab a cocktail and some nachos.
Reminiscing on date nights out to fancy cocktail bars before COVID. Crazy to think that I don’t know when we will be able to go out to a restaurant or bar again. This lockdown situation really makes you think about how many things you take for granted.
This picture was taken a few weeks ago at the Bastion Big Bar. It was our first time visiting, and we loved it! The drinks were great and the atmosphere was really cool (there were games and old school furniture!). Once this is all over, I can’t wait to go back! For now, I’ll be trying to recreate these cocktails at home.

Burger Up
You might think I’m weird but this is my favorite thing form Burger up in 12 South… the kale salad topped with a quinoa burger. Delicious!
Took a break last night from cooking and ordered take-out for dinner from Burger Up in 12 South. I got the kale salad topped with a quinoa burger. It was delicious! Due to COVID, they also do cocktails/beer/wine to-go, so I ordered a Negroni and it came in the cutest little bottle with instructions on how to serve it. I love this city.
Proper Bagel
Now this is a breakfast spot you don’t want to miss when visiting Nashville.
Now this is a breakfast spot you don’t want to miss when visiting Nashville. The line is always SO long because everyone loves it. I recommend ordering online for pick-up (right now with COVID they are doing curbside, so they’ll bring it right out to you). Just go to their website where you can order online, and it will let show you the current wait time. On peak days, don’t be surprised if the wait is an hour or two, so order before you’re hungry. My husband and I picked up our order (2 toasted everything bagels with cream cheese, iced coffee for him, iced coffee add almond milk for me) and went to Elmington Park and sat on a bench there to wolf it down. YUM.

First Watch is a cute spot in Green Hills for breakfast, brunch, and lunch. I always get the avocado toast! They don’t take reservations but you can “get in line” on their website or by using their app… or just walk in. They have great options for gluten-free people like me (well I try to be anyway). I wouldn’t say this is a place you MUST GO if you’re in Nashville, but it’s a great place if you’re in the need for breakfast in the Green Hills area.
Old Glory
This “secret” bar has a fun photo booth, great cocktails, late-night dancing, and empanadas if you’re hungry.
Old Glory is a “secret” bar. There is no entrance sign, only a yellow triangle on the door to let you know “come in!”. Locals know this spot and are probably mad I’m telling you about it right now, so try to keep it as hush-hush as possible! I added a photo for you below to show you what the door looks like. It’s right next to some fake lush greenery (great for a photo spot!). It’s in the alleyway that leads to another one of my favorite places… Bella Napoli. So if you’ve found Bella Napoli, you’re close! Old Glory is a cool place because it used to be a boiler room for steam cleaning facilities. It’s massive! They have a fun photo booth, great cocktails, late-night dancing, and empanadas if you’re hungry.
